BASELINE PROJECT PLAN REPORT Introduction Project Overview Our client, Dave Daro, Resident Director of Scott Hall/Scott Village, has engaged Paragon Systems to design an information system using Microsoft Access 2003. This application imports the client’s data from 13 existing Microsoft Excel 2003 spreadsheets. Our development group plans to design input screens, report generating, and an efficient database which will enable the client to reduce user error and redundant data. This solution facilitates better resident tracking allowing the client to provide better service to its residents. Recommendations Paragon Systems recommends that the project be developed using Microsoft Access 2003. This software program will enable the client to maintain an efficient database without having to learn SQL. The proposed system also enables the client to maintain an efficient database, run queries, and print reports. Using Microsoft Access 2003 will also benefit in the client in that they will not have to buy any new hardware, only one new software license. Therefore, Paragon Systems that the project be developed using Microsoft Access 2003.

Systems Description Alternatives There are various alternatives that may be considered in designing the system which are the following: Retain the current system of Microsoft Excel 2003 Worksheets. o The client could decide to stay with their current system of using Microsoft Excel to keep track of their resident status. The problem with the current system is that it is not very efficient because there is a lot of error and redundant data. Use an SQL Database. o The client could decide to use an SQL database. The problem with an SQL database is that it is command line driven which some of their users may not be comfortable with. It would also require extensive training of the SQL commands for the client.
