DB Forum One While the benefits of running one’s own business are numerous, the problems have the potential to be plentiful as well. Several concepts may act as motivation for one to start a business, such as profit, independence, freedom, personal satisfaction, and fulfillment, but these motivations can mutate into obsessions if one is not careful (Longenecker, 2008). There are some faulty premises that begin the slide toward greed and the problems that come along with entrepreneurship. Dhiman (2008) writes that modern capitalistic lifestyle is often characterized by three bases: the next thing we buy will bring satisfaction, whoever dies with the most wins, and it is impossible to be too rich (p.149). He also cites the current economic breakdown as evidence that greed is not a good thing, and can have horrific consequences (Dhiman, 2008).
