Chapter 2 – Case Brief MASTONDREA v. OCCIDENTAL HOTELS MANAGEMENT S.A. Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division, 2007. 391 N.J.Super. 261, 918 A.2d 27. FACTS: Plaintiff, Amanda Mastondrea (Mastondrea) purchased a vacation package at a resort hotel owned by the defendant, Occidental Hotel Management S.A. (Occidental) after defendant had advertised for said vacation packages in a Newark, New Jersey newspaper. Mastondrea, a New Jersey resident filed a lawsuit against Occidental, a Netherlands corporation, with ownership of the resort hotel in Mexico. Mastondrea’s suit seeks damages as a result of a fall she sustained on June 16, 2003 allegedly due to a wet exterior staircase maintained by the defendant. Occidental sought to dismiss the suit on the grounds that the Court had no personal jurisdiction over them. The trial court rendered a decision in favor of the Mastondrea, whereby, Occidental appealed to the state intermediate appellate court. ISSUE:
