Positive emotions and moods can increase creativity, generation of alternatives, and facilitate the integration of information. Individuals with highly positive affectivity may be overly optimistic in their judgments, and not seek full information. MGTS 3401 Cummings Toward Reducing Bias and Errors ► Focus on goals. ► Look for information that disconfirms beliefs. Clear goals make decision making easier and help to eliminate options inconsistent with your interests. Overtly considering ways we could be wrong challenges our tendencies to think we’re smarter than we actually are. ► Don’t try to create meaning out of random events or coincidence. ► Increase your options. The number and diversity of alternatives generated increases the chance of finding an outstanding one.
