Medicines – substances that, when taken internally or applied to the body, help prevent or cure a disease or other medical problems 2. Vaccine – a preparation containing weakened or death pathogens that provide immunity by causing the body to produce antibodies to the pathogen 3. Analgesics – pain relievers 4. Side effects – reactions to medicine other than the one intended 5. Addictive interaction – when medicines work together in a positive way 6. Synergistic effect – the interaction of two or more medicines that results in a greater effect than when the medicines are taken independently 7. Antagonistic interaction – when the effect of a medicine is canceled or reduced when taken with another medicine 8. Tolerance – a condition in which the body becomes used to the effect of a medicine 9. Withdrawal – the process that occurs when a person stops using a medicine
