Lecture 6 21/01/2010 11:39:00 Ihibitors  Block the enzymes substrate binding site Prevent substrate from binding -> stops reaction Cells use inhibitors all the time o So slow down reactions that are going too fast, or when the products of  the reaction are needed Enzyme Inhibitors as treatment for disease Antiretroviral drugs--- inhiit HIV proteases Viagra--- inhibits a phosphodiesterase Allows smooth muscles cells to relax Cell Division and Cancer Mitosis- very controlled cell division, creating identical cells
