The challenge for IT organizations is to enable easy end-user access to these complex data sources. Employees want to locate and process information quickly — through a simple and consistent user interface. The IBM DB2 ® Information Integrator products help users achieve these goals, by bringing together content and data from across the enterprise in an open, extensible information integration framework. To be effective, a solution for integrating unstructured content and structured data must enable business users to easily access information. Ideally, the user should be unaware that the information comes from diverse sources, such as content repositories, e-mail systems, relational databases or Web content providers. These sources are often distributed across a range of geographies and a variety of operating system platforms. The ability to analyze information, combined with easy access to the results significantly improves the productivity and effectiveness of business users. IBM DB2 Information Integrator for Content helps to meet these challenges, by allowing applications access to sources from inside and outside of the enterprise. From a Web browser or a portal, knowledge workers can concurrently access data and content from multiple sources, expanding the reach of their analysis and improving their productivity. In addition to providing an integration infrastructure, DB2 Information Integrator for Content includes advanced tools for information mining, extended search and workflow modeling. Data integration challenges The concept of content management includes the lifecycle management of paper documents, reports, video and audio files, photographs, faxes, correspondence and more. The business challenge of capturing, organizing, storing, securing and retrieving all of this content can be daunting. And storing all of an organization’s information online and making it accessible to employees, customers and business partners is of keen interest to those striving to become an on demand e-business.
