The unbalanced chemical equation for this reaction is as follows: Pt NH 3 (g) + O 2 (g) –––––––> NO(g) + H 2 O(g) First balance this chemical equation, and then use the data of Table 7.2 in the Petrucci textbook to calculate the standard enthalpy change for the balanced equation. _________________________________________________________________ The simplest non-fractional version of the balanced equation is as follows: 4NH 3 (g) + 5O 2 (g) ––––––> 4NO(g) + 6H 2 O(g) We are asked to calculate the standard enthalpy change for this reaction, using the values of the standard enthalpies of formation of the relevant compounds as listed in Table 7.2 of Petrucci.
