Course of Battle The scheduled attack on Okinawa was April 1st, 1945; same day as first landing of Marines on Japanese soil The XIV Corps ran into the Machinato line on April 4th--> on April 24th, the Machinato line was breached By April 20th, Japanese resistance had been removed from the north of the island Ushijima called for a counter-attack on May 3rd (failed) --> by May 21st, Ushijima ordered his men to pull back from the Shuri line On July 2nd, Okinawa was declared secure by the Americans

Outcome- U.S.A 7,373 men killed and 32,056 wounded on land 5,000 men killed and 4,600 wounded at sea
