Objectives - to explain the function of political parties- to examine some reasons why they are in decline The number of countries without a party system? - none - this suggests that regardless of the kind of democracy each country has, political parties are always existent- they are vital to the health of a democracy The case for parties as organs of the state- receive annual allowance(based on votes) from state 1993 regulations changed this so parties would receive a subsidy- individual limits on political donations limit is 1000 dollars per person to lessen the impact of parties on rich benefactors - ban on union and corporate donations reason being complete transparency - reimbursed for cost of national campaign But yet - no laws about how parties are created or by who...
