-Know Equations: Nernst, GHK, Ohm’s Law (predict size of synaptic current and one that predicts size of synaptic potential) -2 disorder of moods -major depression -symptoms and etiology -prevalence -treatment -ties to synaptic physiology -bipolar disorder -symptoms and etiology -prevalence -treatment -ties to 2 nd messenger systems -normal mood can become a happy mood or a sad mood (this is normal) -sometimes can be elated but it does not happen very often -on the other hand, can feel a sense of despair -but the extreme feelings are less common -moods happen as a result of our experience and are normal -moods are produced in the brain -a major depression has a sense of despair but is not triggered by an event or sustained by an event

-more common for women than men to experience depression -mortality due to suicide also because of drug use -can treat very effectively with drugs that perturb synaptic transmission -there are transporter in the membrane of vesicles that move NT into the vesicle against the concentration gradient
