What do the gametophyte and the sporophyte look like? Only 4 variations that are really important to know in this life cycle. 1) Moss life cycle ~ hornworts and liverworts. 2) Fern life cycle = seedless vascular plant 3) Pine = Gymnosperms life cycle 4) Angiosperm = flowering plant life cycle Root words that might be useful for understanding the terminology. Phyte = plant. Angi or angium = vessel. Sporo = spore – product of meiosis. Gamete – fuse in fertilization from gamos = marriage. Cyte – cell like cytoplasm. Sporangium – vessel that holds the spore.
