1. Claim: We should amend the Constitution to abolish the Electoral College Reason-because a true democracy is based on popular vote, not the votes of the usually unknown electors Warrant-the United States promotes democracy, a true democracy is what Americans deserve Reason-because under the Electoral College system the votes of people who have minority opinions in some states end up not counting. Warrant-since minorities opinions count, they should be added in the total Reason-because then Al Gore would have won the 2000 election Warrant- since Al Gore lost the election only based on the votes of the Electoral College but won the popular vote Reason-because the Electoral College is an outdated relic of an age when the political leaders didn’t trust the people Warrant-Political leaders should trust the people who put them in office Reason-because the Electoral College skews power toward small and mid-size states for no good reason Warrant- power should be divided equally among people and states I think the warrant about Al Gore losing his election only based on the votes of the Electoral College needs to be defended more than the other reasons.
