Wallace Kerrigan Anthropology 1006 Class Project – Emotion Scenarios A. After taking an exam, two friends, Mike and Tom, discuss their scores. Despite spending weeks preparing for the exam, Mike failed. Tom passed the exam and admits to Mike that he cheated. This is overheard by their professor, Dr. Williams. 1. Mike 3, 12, 31, 32, 54, 63, 80, 118 Mike would feel frustration and grumpiness in going so poorly on the exam, but also jealousy and spite towards Tom because he cheated. 2. Tom 64, 65, 107, 115, 121, 128 Tom would feel happiness and relief in doing well on the exam, but also sympathy for Mike as well as guilt in him for cheating. 3. Dr. Williams 6, 22, 31, 32, 54, 121 Dr Williams would feel compassion and sympathy for Mike in that he studied rigorously and failed, but also frustration and disappointment in Tom for cheating. B. Jim is a doctor who was responsible for amputating the leg of his patient, Mark. However, Jim accidentally amputated the wrong leg. Although it was Jim’s fault, Jim denies that it was his fault and blames the mistake on his intern, Monica. 4. Jim 22, 31, 37, 54, 61, 64, 95, 115, 121 Jim would feel disappointment and grief in amputating the wrong leg, but also sympathy and compassion for Mark. Jim would also feel shame and guilt for blaming Monica for his mistake. 5. Mark 3, 10, 28, 35, 59, 63, 69, 71, 92, 111 Mark would feel anger and hostility towards Monica for the mistake, but also depression and gloom because presumably he now has two amputated legs. 6. Monica 10, 32, 33, 35, 71, 128 Monica would feel anger and disgust towards Jim for placing the blame on her. C. Evelyn receives news that her boyfriend, Josh, who is a pilot in the air force, has just been shot down from his helicopter while fighting in Iraq and disappeared without a trace. She is consoled by her friend Jack, who was Josh’s best friend. After some months, Evelyn and Jack fall in love and decide to get engaged. Shortly after, Evelyn receives a call telling her that Josh is actually alive and will be home in just a few days. Upon Josh’s return, Evelyn and Jack meet with Josh and tell him their news. 7. Evelyn 2, 20, 22, 111, 116 Evelyn would feel shock to find that Josh is alive, and show him compassion as well. She would also feel mixed affections and caring towards both men. 8. Josh 5, 6, 28, 30, 55, 69, 87, 97, 111, 118, 119, 120, 129 Josh would feel unhappiness, sadness, depression, and loneliness to find Evelyn and Jack engaged, but also fury and spite towards both Evelyn and Jack for doing such a thing to hurt him. 9. Jack 6, 37, 61, 64, 65, 107, 128
