Lecture 13: Fat Transport Dave's Dietary Delusions: Energy Drink - typical drink: contain b vitamins Like: (niacin), B6 – involved in transamination, gluconegenesis - the reason they work to give more energy: drug caffeine - caffeine: sensitizes neurotransmitter receptors (dopamine) - amphetemine, cocaine, antidepressents work like this - effect doesn't have to do with b vitamines Macronutrient: Fat - most of us are going to die because of a build up of the process of transporting fat (in adipose cells) Review: Fats (triglycerides) 1. first step: Lingual Lipase in saliva (breaks into fatty acids) – to stimulate cck 2. gastric lipase 3. CCK (fatty acid most powerful stimulate for it) 4. cck works on gall bladder which contracts to release bile 5. cck also works on pancreatic lipase 6. in intestine – lipase makes micelle out of fat and stick it into intestinal epithelial cell; puts back fatty acids into tryglycerides and packs it into chylomicron and then dumps it into lymph (slow circulatory system) where it is eventually taken to liver - chylomicron is a lipoprotein lipoproteins: have phospholipid shell – part of it is hydrophilic, part is hydrophobic - allows bile to break a little chunk of triglyceride and hold it for the lipases - embedded into middle of lipoprotein are most of the triglyceride (can carry it as a phospholipid) - dumped into small intestine, contain free cholesterol : - the bile is contained in the liver, it is produced by cholesterol - body absorbs micelle to recover free cholesterol that is embedded into shell of micelle, so it recirculates the cholesterol - also there is cholesterol inside bound to fatty acid - around the surface of lipoprotein – little proteins : particular shape – which allows it to recognize various organs in body (important in how body transports fat) 5 kinds of lipoproteins: (arranged from most lipids to least lipids) – carry fat since blood can't b/c its hydrophobic 1. chylomicron – fattest of lipoproteins: contains the most lipids, floats, goes through lymph to the
