Samuel A. Cordeiro CHM 130-03 October 15, 2007 Nuclear Power’s New Age 1) Two facts that I identified after reading this article are: a. Nuclear power provides three-quarters of French electricity b. That in 1986 there was an accident at a reactor at Chernobyl in Ukraine. 2) Two opinions that I identified after reading this article are: a. “Western governments are concerned that most of the world’s oil and gas is in the hands of hostile or shaky governments.” i. This opinion is that of Western governments b. “The nuclear industry needs to persuade people that it is clean, cheap and safe enough to rely on without a government crutch. If it can’t, it doesn’t deserve a second chance.” i. This opinion is that of the author of this article. 3) The old mistakes about Nuclear Power plants are the complexity of the plants. The designs were complex and expensive. The plants also had common occurrences of Shut Downs and the safety issues were issues. Nuclear power plants were also very expensive to maintain and repair. 4)
