Option 1: Drawing from the lecture that talked about Bartholome de las Casas, write a 3-4 page essay on whether learning about de las Casas changed your view that European colonists were ignorant or unaware of the moral questions of enslaving Natives or Africans for their mines, plantations, etc., or taking Native lands by conquest. Use the Juan Gines de Sepulveda – Bartholome de las Casas debate from lecture and readings I will provide to fill that out to develop your position. The Bishops who heard the debate at Valodollid did not issue a decision on who “won” the debate, so you can act in their behalf on reviewing the arguments.
