Result From a sample of 94 students, 54 (57.4%) of them are tested positive with S. Aureus. While the result for students who have MSSA is 45 (47.9%), the students tested for MRSA is 9 (14.5%) of the class. Table 1: ------------------------------- Percent of students with S. aureus MSSA MRSA 57.4% 47.9% 14.5% While the percentage of students with S. aureus is more than half (58.5%) of the class, only 14.15% of the students have Methicillin-Resistant S. Aureus. This shows that not all students who have S. aureus will necessarily have MRSA. The hypothesis tested was that having one or more of the five risk factors increases an individual’s probability of carrying MRSA. Using the data collected, the number of students observed minus the number of students expected to have MRSA for each risk factor is calculated. Figure 1. Association of five risk factors with the prevalence of MRSA in Intro Bio 20082 Figure 1 showed that participating in contact sports or other skin to skin contact is not really a risk factor for getting MRSA but having used antibiotics within the past
