Hawk Class:Ct Date Questions/Main Ideas: Notes Arguments Based on Propositions[6] Truth Functional Relations The truth of a compound statement (proposition), that is, a statement (proposition) made up of other statements (propositions) is determined by the truth or falsity (truth values) of those other statements (propositions). The truth of the statement “You are beautiful and I love you” is determined by the truth or falsity of the statement “You are beautiful” and the statement “I love you.” If “you are beautiful” is false or “I love you” is false, then “You are beautiful and I love you” is false. Five Types of Truth Functional Relations Negation : If a proposition is true, its negation is false. Conjunction : A conjunction is true if and only if both of its component propositions ( conjuncts ) are true. Disjunction : A disjunction is true unless both of its component propositions ( disjuncts ) are false.
