Management Information System Management information has the three sub-components Management, Information and System, together bring out the focus clearly & effectively. WHAT IS MANAGEMENT? Management focusing on the ultimate use of such information systems for managerial decision making. The management is an activity that managers do to there company including organization, product, plan, and structure internal or external some company. Peter Drucker, whom some regard as the father of modern management, has this to say,” The manager has a task of creating a true whole that is larger than the sum of its parts, a productive entity that turns out more than the sum of the resources put into it. One analogy is the conductor of a symphony orchestra, through whose effort vision and leadership individual instrumental parts that are so much noise by themselves become the living whole of music. But the conductor has the composer score”. WHAT IS INFORMATION? Information stressing on processed data in the context in which it is used by end users. Data that has been put into a meaningful and useful context is called information. We need information to ensure effective and efficient decision–making leading to prosperity of the Organization. WHAT IS SYSTEM? Systems are created to solve problems. System emphasizes a fair degree of integration and a holistic view. Systems approach is an organized way of dealing with a problem. A collection of components that work together to realize some objective forms a system Example of system: Human body - a complete natural system. National systems - political system, economic system, educational system.

WHAT IS MIS? MIS refers broadly to a computer-based system that provides managers with the tools for organizing, evaluating and efficiently running their departments. MIS means Right Information To the right person At the right place At the right time In the right form At the right cost Management Information System is an old management tool, which has been long used by people for better management and scientific decision making. Management Information System is mainly dependent upon information, which is a vital ingredient of any Management Information System. Information is the most critical resource of Management Information System. There are so many factors responsible for enhancing the importance of Management Information System such as: Dynamic and competitive nature of market place. Globalization of resources / economy. Increasing complexities of business organization. The information revolution. “Management Information system is an integrated man / machine system for providing information to support the operations, management and decision making functions in an organization.” Here the system utilizes hardware, software, manual procedures, and management decision model and data base.
