TA 2014 2/26 26/02/2010 11:15:00 Social Problem Play – 6 elements Realism Relevance Suspense particular instance of a general condition o part of the playwright intent is to shed light on problems that he sees  on society o small representation of a larger issue Hedda Gabler -  Debate regarding the “rightness” or “wrongness” of society o debate between who/what is right or wrong o accepted social values are Outcome is the author’s proof that society is wrong o the way the play turns out is the author’s “proof” that society is wrong the fact that hedda felt so trapped that she had to kill herself to  get away. If she was put into another setting, she might not have had the  motivation to kill herself. we are aware of what the playwright opinions are.
