The probability that the random variable assumes a particular value is zero. Probabilities are assigned to intervals. A continuous random variable is characterized by a probability density function. Normal Distribution A random variable X is normally distributed if its probability density function is bell shaped. The mean (u) and the standard deviation are parameters of the normal distribution. Properties of the Normal Curve The normal density function is symmetric around the mean. The tails of the normal density curve extend to infinity approaching the horizontal axis.
