Unformatted text preview: Purpose The purpose of the lab was to experimentally determine some basic material properties such as density, relative hardness and thermal conductivity. Given ten different materials, density was determined using Archimedes Principle which takes into account buoyant force. Relative hardness was measured using Mohs scale in which the higher the number in the scale the harder the material. Finally, thermal conductivity of the different materials was compared based on the rate of heat transfer. Results Part 1 Relative Hardness The relative hardness of the materials was qualitatively determined using the Mohs scale.
