9 Billionaire Leona Helmsley, who ran a vast real estate empire that included the Helmsley Hotels, was sent to prison in 1993 for evading taxes. She served 18 months. Dubbed "The Queen of Mean" by the media, and known for her over-the-top excesses and rich-bitch attitude, she endeared herself to the American people with such quips as "Only the little people pay taxes.” These early excesses now pale in comparison to those of the Enron, Worldcom and Tyco executives. O ther Facts: Her husband, Harry, was not put on trial because he was found incompetent due to memory deficiencies. Harry Helmsley died in 1997, and Leona put the couple's estimated $5 billion in real estate holdings up for sale. http://www.evilfagempire.com/clay/leona.htm Only the little people pay taxes! 10 Baseball Great Pete Rose Thrown Out By IRS Again POSTED: 5:15 pm EDT August 20, 2004 MIAMI -- Pete Rose is back in trouble with the IRS -- this time for nearly $1 million he allegedly owes in unpaid taxes. The IRS filed a federal tax lien in Broward County on Tuesday alleging that baseball's all-time hits king owes $973,693.28 in back taxes from 1997 to 2002. This is Rose’s second bout with the government. He spent five months in prison for filing false tax returns in 1990 and 1991 Rose's business manager won't discuss the lien. The IRS has not returned calls. In 1989, Rose agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball after an investigation into charges that he bet on games. Years later, he admitted to placing bets on games involving the Cincinnati Reds while he was team manager. Research for me. I need help. Again! During a 24-year career Rose had a record 4,256 hits before retiring in 1986. A fan favorite who was nicknamed ''Charlie Hustle'' because of his style of play, Rose made the All-Star team 17 times, was the National League's rookie of the year in 1963, MVP in 1973 and MVP of the 1975 World Series. He led the league in hitting three times and played on three World Series champions.
