Civilizations Conflict 2 Civilizations Conflict: The West and the Muslim East: Norris’s and Inglehart’s essay “It’s the Women, Stupid” (2004), is akin to an analysis of today’s world reality which reveals new ideas through a breakdown of facts. The essay targets several but one important idea which is the reason behind the conflict between civilizations, which is a result of globalization. The authors represented two distinct explanations for the gap between the West and the East- particularly Muslim societies. For instance, according to Huntington’s claim, the reason behind this gap is a political conflict. Whereas, according to the authors, based on evidence and research, this gap is due to a cultural conflict. Norris and Inglehart succeeded in conveying their argument about civilizations conflict through providing ample evidence, achieving fairness and using comparison style of writing. The authors, Norris and Inglehart, are credible writers on the subject of politics and public opinions because of their professions and their experiences. Firstly, Pippa Norris is the McGuire professor of Comparative Politics at Harvard University. Besides, she is a political scientist and published many books for the Cambridge University Press, such as: Radical Right: Voters and Parties in the Electoral Marketplace (2005), Sacred and Secular: Religion and Politics Worldwide (2004) with Ronald Inglehart, which won a Virginia HodgKinson prize from the Independent Sector. Ronald Inglehart is a professor of Political Science at the University of Michigan and the Director of the World Values Surveys from which he and Norris used evidence from. Accordingly, the
