Alicia Olvera-DelongLia DeweyTheatre 210003/07/2020Costumes are a big part of any play, and can have an effect like it did during the play Indecent. In the play Indecent multiple actors play multiple characters, of both different gender and ethnicity at some points. Costumes are what help us, as the audience, differentiate who the actors played and are playing in the moment. In my opinion Rebecca Turk(the costume designer of Indecent) did a great job of making sure the audience knew who each actor was playing at the given moment. This is shown when Halina refuses to learn english well enough for the European audiences, and is kicked off the play and replaced. I think without the apron that replacement Halina wore, it would have been confusing for the audience to realize immediately that she was the replacement. Also at some points(I can’t really remember which character or actor) characters would wear mustaches and hats to show that they were now acting as men, even though the actor was a woman.
