Biology 124L Name: ___________________________ Spring 2010 Section: __________________________ Homework # 5 Photosynthesis & Respiration Due week of March 8 – 12 Using the information provided in your textbook and lab manual on photosynthesis and respiration, answer the following questions: 1. A symbiotic relationship exists between plants and humans. Plants use CO 2 and H 2 O in the presence of sunlight to produce C 6 H 12 O 6 , H 2 O, O 2 and humans use C 6 H 12 O 6 , H 2 O, and O 2 to produce CO 2 and H 2 O. Draw the balanced chemical equation for this relationship. (0.5 point) 2. Respiration is the process whereby cells convert biochemical energy obtained from nutrients into useful energy for their metabolism and can involve three different pathways. Name the three pathways and state if the pathway requires oxygen (if not, what does it require?) and if glucose is completely broken down or only partially broken down. (1.5 points – 0.5 point for each pathway) Pathway Requires O 2 ? Glucose Broken Down?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
