Exercising and Your Health Physical exercise is one of the best and healthiest ways a person can improve their general well-being and physical condition. The benefits of a routine exercise program are vast. Exercising on a regular basis greatly improves your general wellness. According to our class notes, a person’s “wellness” consists of their deliberate and constant effort to stay healthy. Included in this is their mental health, physical health, emotional health and a person’s sexual health. Scientific studies have shown that a physical exercise program can reduce a person’s high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. A research report by Mayo Clinic states that there are seven main benefits of regular physical activity. These seven benefits include an improved mood, combating chronic disease, weight management, a boost of your energy level; a better night’s sleep, increased sex drive, and finally exercising can be fun. When a person exercises their mood is improved because exercising releases endorphins; which are chemicals released by the brain which make you feel relaxed. Exercise also improves a person’s mood because many people feel better about themselves after they exercise, therefore they have an increased confidence level and are an overall happier person. Exercise reduces or eliminates chronic diseases such as increased blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. This is done by doing aerobic exercises. Examples of aerobic exercise are running, dancing, swimming, biking, and brisk walking.
