UNIVERSITY OF THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
Dear Students,
I want to extend my appreciation for
your decision in selecting the University
of the District of Columbia for your
academic experience.
We, the faculty,
administrators,
staff
and
student
leadership, consider this institution
as the quintessential urban-land-grant
university.
We have attracted students
and faculty from over 104 countries
to engage with each other and with
the cultural, global, scientific, political
and business enterprises that make
Washington, DC one of the most exciting
cities in the world.
As
President,
I
am
committed
to
excellence,
academically
and
professionally,
to
ensure
that
the
University of the District of Columbia
meets the highest standards in course
offerings, facilities and services.
The
University values learning as a means
of attaining personal empowerment and
personal growth through improved critical
self-awareness and personal creativity.
Education is a lifelong process of critical
inquiry; the University commits resources
to continuing education programs for our
larger community.
We have opened a new state-of-the-
art Disability Resource Center that will
ensure that all students with disabilities
have equal opportunities to participate
in, contribute to, and benefit from
all University programs.
The Center
will directly support students with
disabilities in achieving their goals,
as well as strengthening a climate of
campus
diversity
and
engagement.
The
opportunities
for
engagement
and leadership inside and outside the
classroom—the possibilities for making
a difference—are compelling
and I
hope you will take some time to become
involved.
For many of you, this will be a
momentous occasion as you and your
family prepare for graduation and your
life afterwards.
We acknowledge and
salute the hard work you have done. So
enjoy the University of the District of
Columbia, America’s urban-land-grant
University.
It is cosmopolitan; it is
demanding but caring; it is remarkably
diverse in its membership, its interests,
and its opportunities for personal and
intellectual growth; it is rooted in a
tradition of service and inspired by its
commitment to excellence.
