Denise Seals Leadership and Ethics MBAC5113OL Dr. Howard November 9, 2008 Week 4 – Reading Assignment 1. Describe managerial derailment and self-defeating behavior in leader. Managerial derailment can be defined as individuals who at one time were on the fast track but now had their careers derailed. There are four derailment patterns: 1) Inability to build relationships – these leaders usually is insensitive to the needs of their followers and co-worker, these leaders are often overly competitive, demanding and domineering. 2) Failure to meet business objective –these leaders often blame other and point fingers, this leader usually does not take responsibility for their action. 3) Inability to build and lead a team – these leaders usually do not hire the right man for the job, they often hire people that are just like them, or they hire people with less capable to highlight themselves or these bosses micro- management when they are not an expert for themselves. 4) Inability to adapt - these leaders usually can not adapt to new bosses, business, cultures, or structures. 5)
