Our bodies are our canvases, whether they are decked out in the finest fashions or used to perform every day functions like walking, sitting and even running, we rely on these bodies to express so many emotions and statements, but when does a body become more than a body? As a culture, we have become obsessed with the ideal physical shape of the body. This ideal has become a fantasy and this fantasy is so consuming and so pervasive that it compels millions of people around the world to open their wallets and spend millions of dollars. Thus, the body becomes more than just a body. It becomes a representation, a tool that can be used to wield power. The image discussed in this paper is just one of the many examples of how this power can be channelled, marketed and consumed through media representation.
