Zoo/Psych/Neurosci 523 Daughter of Exam 1 2008 NO CALCULATORS! 1) (20 points; 5 points each) Please describe briefly: a) Divergent neuron. A divergent neuron is one that received relatively few inputs and makes synaptic output to a relatively large number of postsynaptic neurons. b) The total resistance of 2 resistances, one with resistance of 2 megohm and the other of 12 megohms, in series. Resistances in series add, so the total resistance will be 14 megohms c) The voltage across the 2 megohm resistor if a voltage of 70 mV is applied across these two resistances in series. ○--------2 megohms------12 megohms-------○ --------------------70 mV-------------------- The current flowing will be 70/(14 X 10 6) milliamps. Therefore the voltage across the 2 megohm resistor will be 2 X 10 6 X 70/(14 X 10 6 ) mV = 10 mV d) The charge on a 2 microfarad capacitor with a voltage of 80 mV across its terminals. Charge = 2 X 10
