The power of connection: Building a Personal Learning Network A Personal Learning Network, also known as PLN is when a group of people connects to communicate, exchange knowledge, and collaborate for the sake of learning. In a few words, PNL is all about social media interaction with friends, family, professionals, teachers, and others, to encourage common learning. Grantham (2012) thinks that PLN “is a real opportunity to impact personal, professional, and intellectual growth” (para 2). It is good to note that social media is a great tool for developing PLN. Building social media platforms imply interaction with people you know and may not know (Grantham, 2012). To build a PLN, it is a good idea to start by identifying all the people you know at the local, national and international levels, especially the people with whom you share the same goals, interests, and values. As well as identifying the social media you want to add on your PLN. In this paper, I would breakdown the methods I would use to create my PLN. Networking The primary functions of social media are to share information, interact, and collaborate with others. Social media allow us to work in symbiosis with groups of people who have similar knowledge and goals to accomplish tasks together (Martin, Negre, & Perez, 2014). It is, therefore, a powerful tool to build a learning strategy.
