Mehmet Bayram 2 nd  Period CP Bio A Mrs. Maggio 9/13/05 The Microscope A microscope is a tool that enlarges small objects to aid you in seeing  more detail. Without the microscope, we wouldn't know the world of tiny  creatures and objects besides the ones that we can see with our naked eyes.  Several hundred years ago, people knew the uses of transparent glass  and how they helped people see more clearly, but the glass was greenish and  was full of air bubbles. By the seventeenth century, the lenses were clearer and  easier to look through. People were more curious and wanted to know more  about their surroundings. Robert Hooke was one on the first person to make a microscope. It was  much simpler than the ones we use today. It only had 2 lenses, one at each end  of a long tube. When he wanted to look at the specimen, he used sunlight but  eventually he added a flaming oil lamp.
