Mehmet Bayram APUSH 1 May 14, 2007 3. Prof. Mark Lender at Kean University (full disclosure: he is my college boss) describes the Civil War as the true American Revolution. Assess the validity of this statement. Professor Mark Lender was partially correct when he said that the Civil War was the true American Revolution, but since he added the word true, it makes the sentence false. Even though the Civil War resulted in the Industrial Revolution, it was not one itself. The Civil War did not have the necessary qualities to be the true American Revolution. A revolution is defined as “a relatively sudden and absolutely drastic change. This may be a change in the social or political institutions over a relatively short period of time, or a major change in its culture or economy“. The Civil War fits the description of a revolution, but since Mr. Lender used true in his sentence, it makes the sentence invalid.
