To: Dr. Jill Manderson From: Fraser Parke Date: October 11, 2007 Subject: Proposal to write a Problem-Solving Report recommending ways to increase sales for the local retailer, Sweet Retreat. P URPOSE Sweet Retreat is a locally owned candy shop, located on the main floor of Park Lane Mall. Sweet Retreat has been situated at this location for the past sixteen years. However, even after all these years of experience, a problem still exists that is affecting their overall efficiency. In order to ensure that Sweet Retreat is still running for another sixteen years, a few minor changes regarding the store layout and security must be made. One of the biggest incentives for shopping at Sweet Retreat is the customized candy bags one can create using all the assorted candies. Of course, not all candies are the same price and therefore they are divided into separate pricing categories. Each box of candy is marked with a coloured sticker which represents which category of pricing the box belongs too. The first problem arises as soon as the customer begins filling their bag with candy. Customers tend to lose track of two important numbers: the number of candies they have collected in their bag so far
