Introduction to Computer Science I with Lab Baylor University School of Engineering and Computer Science Spring 2010 Professor Mr. Matthew H. Aars Office 220.13 RECS Phone 710-3598 Office Hours MW 10am – 12:30pm, W 2:30pm –32:30pm, TR 9:30am – 12:30pm or by appointment Lecture MWF 1:25pm -2:15pm ECS 104 Lab M 4:30pm – 6:20pm ECS 115 Final Exam 9:00am-11:00am Monday, May 10, 2010 Course Description/Goals: This course is introduction to computers, problem solving and algorithm development. It assumes no prior knowledge of these skills, however prior experience is helpful. This semester we will learn to design, code, debug, and document programs using techniques of good programming style and the C++ programming language. Weekly laboratory experiments and examples will be used to illustrate and reinforce concepts taught in the lectures. Course Educational Objectives: Use problem-solving strategies to develop an algorithmic solution to a problem. Develop procedural programming skills in a high-level language. Demonstrate an understanding of data representation. Implement an algorithm in a high-level programming language. Successfully use a program development environment. Competently demonstrate programming-related communication skills. Required Text: Starting Out with C++ Early Objects , ( SIXTH edition), Tony Gaddis, et al., Addison Wesley, 2008. Grading: Exam 1 20% Exam 2 20% Labs (online quiz/group lab) 10% Labs (written quiz) 10% Assignments 15% Final Exam 25% Total 100% 90- 100 A 88-89 B + 80-87 B 78-79 C + 70-77 C 60-69 D < 60 F Exams: We will have three exams in this class, Exam 1, Exam 2, and Final Exam. 50% of each of the
