Second half: Struggles between countries espousing the sot Marxist approach and those following a democratic capitalist approach to economic development. o Marshall Plan was used by U.S. to assist in rebuilding Europe. Tried to create a strong world economy. New noncommunist world economies grew and new markets created. o Built up world economy which enabled them to buy more from us. o General Agreement on tariffs and Trade (GATT): A forum for member countries to negotiate a reduction of tariffs and other barriers to trade. Eventually became part of WTO. o World T rade and U.S. Multinationals Rapid growth of war-torn economies and underdeveloped countries coupled with large-scale economic cooperation and assistance led to new global marketing opportunities....
