Last up-dated January 7, 2010. ECE 3025(A) Electromagnetism Spring 2010 ECE Catalog description: To present the laws and applications of electromagnetism. Instructor: Prof. Bernard Kippelen Office: Molecular Science and Engineering Building (#167 on campus map), room 4239. Office phone: 404 385-5163; Cell phone (for emergencies only): 404 293-0895. email: [email protected] Class schedule: Mon./Wed./Fri. 11:05 – 11:55 am in Klaus 2443. Office hours: I can be reached at any time by appointment. Please send email or call before coming to my office to set an appointment. Prerequisites: ECE 2040 and Math 2403 Textbooks: First 5 weeks: Class notes on transmission lines by Peterson (Class notes available on T-Square) Remainder of course: Hayt/Buck, Engineering Electromagnetics, 7th ed., McGraw-Hill, 2006 ISBN: 0-07-252495-2. Homework: There will be ~ 10 homework assignments during this course. They will be issued every week (depending on the exam schedule) and posted on T-Square. All homework will be due on the same day of the following week and must be handed in during the class. Solutions will be posted on T-Square with the grade distributions. Students can work individually or in group, however each student must submit his/her own homework. When working as a group, please list your group members on your homework. Exams and Grading: Grades will be based on a 100 point scale. Exams consist of three in-class quizzes and a final exam. Quizzes will be held on Feb. 10, Mar. 5, and Apr. 5 . Final exam is scheduled during week of May 3 . All exams will be closed book and all memories on calculators will have to be reset. No formula sheets will be allowed. Cell phones will not be allowed during quizzes and exams and will have to be turned off during class. The final grade will be calculated as a function of the following distribution:
