Purpose
The purpose of this memorandum is to show the student’s comprehension of the lab involving
chains and sprockets. This memorandum will focus on nomenclature, classification and outputs of the
components. Knowledge of the specifications among components will allow for better selection given
important parameters.
Procedure
Exercise I:
Part A:
•
Understanding pitch, roller diameter, inside width, plate thickness, lubrication and application
scope for five different types of chains.
Part B:
•
Measure the pitch, hub width, groove diameter, maximum hub, sprocket width, pitch diameter,
bottom diameter, bore diameter of sprocket and number of teeth
Exercise II:
•
Identify chain number and sprocket number in the catalogue
•
Measure central distance
•
Measure RPM of each sprocket
•
Calculate actual velocity ratio and theoretical velocity ratio
