Kourtney Anderson November 9, 2009 Mr. Braun DEP 2004 Sara The career stage Sara is in is the exploration stage, but in the realistic period. The realistic period is when decisions are based on actual experience, the choices are narrowed to a few alternatives, and eventually a commitment is made. (Braun, Fall 2009) Sara is a mother of teenagers and she wants to go back to school. She is capable of doing this because her children are still young. I am a good example of a typical person in the realistic stage because I’m in my early adulthood, however Sara has returned to this phase later in life. The developmental situation between Sara and her sister Julie, is that Sara has something that Julie doesn’t in this stage of their lives. That missing thing is Julie experiencing empty nest syndrome, whereas Sara isn’t. (Braun, Fall 2009) Sara still has her children at home and is going to school. Therefore, she doesn’t have to yet think about her children leaving and going to school keeps her mind off of things like that.
