Skit 2 Concept: Identity foreclosure and Identity Diffusion Characters: Brian, Brian’s Parents -------------------------------- Narration: Adolescence is a time when many teens compete with their identities. In the Breakfast Club Brian is in identity foreclosure. Identity foreclosure is taking on an already made identity that has commitment and no crisis. Brian seemingly accepts his identity as the nerd and smart kid mainly from his parents’ authoritarian style on pressuring school on him. In the movie Brian almost tried to kill himself over a bad grade because to him grades define his identity. In this scene you will see Brian move into identity diffusion, which is when a person has a lack of clear direction with no commitment and no crisis. People in identity diffusion are not committed to values and goals. In our scene Brian moves from identity foreclosure to identity diffusion after getting in a fight with his parents and realizing that he just doesn’t care anymore. His identity as the intelligent nerd is rejected and he is
