Ashley McIntire English 217 4685 March 10, 2006 Essay #1 A Job, Not a Career It was eight forty-five in the morning; I had been at work for fifteen long minutes. I had already folded fifty stiff, cloth napkins into fifty small rectangles and stored them all in lopsided stacks in the room where I was assigned, which happened to be the house, my favorite. “Shift meeting!” I hear in the background and then walk into the kitchen. All thirteen of us gathered around Jen, the general manager. Jen, as usual, was wearing one of her delicate, green, silk blouses and her black skirt that fell just below her knees. Her clothes always fit her perfectly despite her extremely small size. On her perfectly made-up face she wore a menacingly fake smile. I could almost hear her teeth grinding through all of the loud restaurant noises. “Okay, so it’s smooth Saturday everyone,” she read off the white board that stood behind her. “It’ll get busy but remember: teamwork! If you help them, they will help you, and everything will go much smoother. Do not be afraid to ask for help; you have Kira and I to help you too. I do not want anyone yelling at the cooks. Bronson is expo today; he should be the only one talking to the cooks.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
