Be able to decide when to use heat capacity, molar heat capacity, or specific heat. Understand how | ± H VAP | and | ± H MELT | connect to ± E BOND . Text Reading Assignment: a) Continue to read and reread Chapter 1 of the Text. b) You have now been introduced to two models, which are summarized in the blue foldout sheets at the back of the text. Take a quick look at the appendix in the text M1: Models and the Place of Models in Science. As you continue to work with models, refer back to this Appendix now and then and use it to put what you are doing in this course in a larger perspective.

Physics 7A Exit Handout DLM 02 FNTs 1.2-1) Consider again the phenomenon of two substances at different temperatures exchanging energy as they come to thermal equilibrium. Substance A and substance B, at different temperatures, are placed in contact. They are able to exchange energy as heat, and they can only exchange it with each other. Substance A has a greater initial temperature than substance B. No phase changes occur during this process. Explain whether you agree or disagree with the following statement about the heat exchange described above for substances A & B: “The energy that is transferred as heat to or from the object with the larger heat capacity must be greater than the energy that is transferred as heat to or from the object with the smaller heat capacity.”
