Women Studies November 25, 2009 Religion Responding to Androcentric World-views (world view that puts men at the centre of the universe through religion) Defining Religion 1. Myth - Symbolic story (mythos) containing essential truths about human origins, destiny, relation to powers believed to govern the universe, and required responses 2. Ritual - Actions connecting individuals/communities to sacred reality, including symbolic reenactments of the myths to pass on to future generations 3. Morality - Behaviors that uphold rightness, virtue and goodness in human interaction as a way to reverence the sacred 4. Language - Symbolic oral and textual expressions to speak about the sacred Religion cannot be fair towards women because the farther back you go in human history the less power women have. Since these texts were written thousands of years ago it is without a doubt women will not be held that highly in those texts. Thats why religion is not practical your taking something that was written thousands of years ago
