Melanie Larson BIOL 101 Lab Section 13 January 26, 2010 Writing a Laboratory Report 1. Title The title of the lab report is long because it is just enough information to keep the reader engaged with the topic to continue further reading. The title is not like a news paper headline because in a newspaper headline the title doesn’t leave room for curiosity, whereas a title of a lab report does. 2. Abstract The abstract contains information regarding why the experiment was conducted; the purpose. The abstract also summarizes the results of the experiment. The abstract uses information from the Results and Discussion section stated in the last two sentences of the abstract to summarize the results. The abstract is a short paragraph, summarizing information but not giving too much information. 3. Introduction (Highlighted and labeled information attached.) References are used in the introduction, due to the fact that the statements said are not the students but ideas from a creditable resource. References are found in the introduction because prior
