SAMPLE INTRODUCTORY OUTLINE Name: Title: Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about the interesting events which occurred on (date). Thesis: Three events of interest occurred on (date): the birth of (name), (the name of first event) and finally (the name of the second event). Type of Organizational Pattern: Topical Date: Introduction I. This sentence should get the attention of your audience and create interest in your topic. A. This sentence should support/expand on the first main point. B. This sentence should offer additional support and information relating to the first main point. II. This main point sentence establishes your credibility (that you know about your topic) and the goodwill of your audience (that we will gain something by taking the time to listen to you). III. This main point clearly reveals the topic, so that your audience knows exactly who and what you will be discussing. IV. This main point previews the main points of your speech and is similar to the central idea.
