Announcement for Final Grade Many of you have question regarding your nal grade. Therefor I would like to make an announce- ment. Your grade is based on i 15% Homework assignments/Quizzes. You can drop the lowest three grades. ii 5 % Presentation in the discussion class. Explain below. iii 60% 3 midterm exams, each one for 20 iv 20% Final exam. Basically I will not curve your grade unless the average of your nal grade is too low. If necessary, the nal grades will be curved to achieve a class average equivalent to 75/100 points or thereabouts. Grades will never be curved downwards. The overall course grade will be based on a standard grading scale ( A = 100 - 90%; A - ,B + ,B = 89 - 80%; B - ,C + ,C = 79 - 70% ,C - ,D + ,D = 69 - 60% ,F = 59 - 0%) . I also o er you a choice. You can replace one of your midterm exam grade by your nal exam grade. However, there is a penalty: The highest grade you can get from this class is C + . You do not have to tell me if you want to choice this option before you have seen your nal exam grade. You can see all your grades and do some calculation by yourself.

Unformatted text preview: I will not choose the best grade for you . You have to notify me if you want to choose this option before I submit your nal grade . Example: Jay got 90 for his homework, 100 for his presentation, 20 for the rst exam, 50 for the second exam, 70 for the third exam. If he got 80 for the nal exam, the nal grade he has is 90 * . 15 + 100 * . 05 + 20 * . 2 + 50 * . 2 + 70 * . 2 + 90 * . 2 = 64 . 5 Then his nal grade will be D or D + . However, if he tell me he want to replace his rst exam grade by the nal grade, he will have 90 * . 15 + 100 * . 05 + 90 * . 2 + 50 * . 2 + 70 * . 2 + 90 * . 2 = 78 . 5 Then his nal grade will be C + (instead of B-since the highest grade he can have is C + now). Remember, you have to tell me if you want to choose this option after you see your nal exam grade before I submit your nal grade. You will not get any grade above C + by choosing this option. 1...
