    Health psychology A domain of psychology concerned with how psychosocial factors relate to the promotion and maintenance of health and with the causation, prevention and treatment of illness. Biopsychosocial model: Physical illness is caused by a complex interaction of biological, psychological and sociocultural factors.

    Stress A subjective feeling produced by events perceived as uncontrollable and threatening. A response to the perceived demands of the situation Stressors: Events that lead to stress. People's appraisal of stressful events (stressors) are highly subjective. Stress lies in the eye of the beholder Eustress, positive stress VS distress, negative stress.

  Major sources of stress 1. Frustration : It is experienced when the pursuit of some goal is thwarted 2. Conflict : It occurs when two or more incompatible behaviors compete for expression ( Approach-approach, avoidance-avoidance, approach-avoidance) 3.
