3/15/2010 MCB 104; Handout #7 Practice problems : 1. What will be the vulval phenotype of each of the following classes of C. elegans mutant? 1A. EGF - (null); EGFR* (constitutive): Multivulva (1 o & 2 o fates) 1B. EGFR - (null) Ras* (constitutive): Multivulva (1 o & 2 o fates) 1C. EGF - (null); EGFR - (null): Vulvaless (3 o fates). 1D. EGFR* (constitutive); Ras (null): Vulvaless (3 o fates). 2. Based on the genetic following data for a signaling pathway that regulates cellular differentiation, put the genes in order. Use a pointy arrow ( ) to show activation, and a blunt arrow to show repression: --| Mutant Phenotype A* No differentiation A - Cell differentiates B - No differentiation C* Cell differentiates D - Cell differentiates E* No differentiation A - ; B - Cell differentiates C*; B - No differentiation A - ; E* No differentiation E*; D - Cell differentiates C B--| A E D--| Cellular differentiation. 3. Based on the genetic following data for a signaling pathway that regulates cell division, put the genes in order. Use a pointy arrow ( ) to show activation, and a blunt arrow to show repression: --| Mutant Phenotype F - Cell divides G* No division G - Cell divides H - No division I - No division F - G* No division F - H - No division F - I - No division G - I - Cell divides G - H - No division F --| I --| G --| H Cell Division

3/15/2010 MCB 104; Handout #7 4. A certain mutation in flies called hh 1 interferes with development of the fly eye; hh 1 homozygotes have a “rough eye” phenotype, but are fully viable. When you perform a mutagenesis screen on hh 1 /hh 1 parents, you obtain a number of hh 1 /hh 1 F1 flies that have a healthy wild-type eye instead of a rough eye.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
